Hewitt Teabout was a member of the 10th Calvary–Buffalo Soldiers during the 1930’s. He was stationed at West Point, New York during this time. Teabout was an exceptional athlete and played on the Buffalo Soldiers baseball, basketball and football teams. During his tour at West Point, Teabout was also given permission to play on local teams in baseball, basketball and football. The scrapbook presented in this museum gallery was Teabout’s personal scrapbook of his sports achievements. It includes numerous newspaper clippings, pictures, statistical recaps, lineup cards, personal notes, statistics, league standings, individual records and other items related to baseball, basketball and football in the West Point area from 1934 to 1938. The scrapbook is an excellent historical preservation of black sports in the military in the 1930’s. Some of the items included in the scrapbook are:
