Kansas City Monarchs vs Dizzy Dean All-Stars (1934)
After the regular baseball season was over and the Major League World Series had concluded, the Kansas City Monarchs and the Dizzy Dean All-Stars hooked for one of the most successful barnstorming tours during that period in baseball history. Dizzy and Daffy Dean had just helped the St. Louis Cardinals win the Major League baseball World Series. The Kansas City Monarchs were coming off another very successful season as a barnstorming team.
The barnstorming tour included games in Kansas City, Chicago, Des Moines and Oklahoma City. The short tour occurred in October of 1934. Attendance records show that between fourteen to twenty thousand fans attended each game. The revenues were split between the two teams by the winning team getting 60 % after expenses and the losing team getting 40 %. Dizzy Dean used to joke that he made more money on this barnstorming tour than he did when the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series.
