The St. Louis Colored Giants were a semipro barnstorming team that played predominately in the Midwest during the 1920’s and 1930’s. The Giants were based in St. Louis, Missouri. Teams like the St. Louis Colored Giants gave young ball players an opportunity to develop and showcase their skills. These teams also gave older ball players the chance to play competitive baseball and still stay close to home.



The St. Mary’s Baseball Club was a top-flight local amateur team from Alton, Illinois. St. Mary’s booked black teams on a regular basis to play at Sportsman Park.
